|Dumbass copy protection

So I was visiting $RELATIVE who wanted me to make a copy of one of their CDs, and I couldn't do it on linux on my laptop because of copy protection. Apparently the CRC checksum data is deliberately corrupted, so the linux device driver gives up (can't even do a dd). However, I had no trouble ripping the tracks using windows media player. This has to be the most moronic copy protection scheme ever - why jump through hoops to make it not work on linux if you're doing nothing to stop it being copied on windows? Anyway, does anyone know a workaround on linux?
