Obesity sucks [Nov. 7th, 2005|11:41 pm]
Arvind Narayanan
What you eat is your own business. If you delude your lazy ass into thinking that obesity is due to a virus, genetics, or evil corporations, that's your business too. But when you drive up my insurance premiums and air fares and take up three seats on the bus, it bothers me. When you force me to wear baggy pants, I'm going to bitch about it.

I am a healthy adult male. I should be able to find jeans my waist size, dammit. Obesity is so rampant in America that there are no clothes for healthy people. I have to shop in the boys section for 30-inch belts.

There's a guy in supersize me who asks a very interesting question: when will it become (somewhat) acceptable to heckle fat people in public as it is today to heckle smokers? I realize of course that it will never happen, nor do I have any intention of heckling either smokers or obese people, whether socially acceptable or not, but considering that obese people seem to have a much greater effect on my life than smokers, I wouldn't be sorry if that became a reality.

So true. I have bought just one pair of pants (size 30) after coming here. Somehow manage to get on with it by using a belt and not tucking my shirt. Most places don't even carry 28 size. The best bet is sports shops like Sportchek where I find some size 30s if not 28s or atleast elastic waist pants.

Ridiculous post

This is a ridiculous post (though I guess you are just venting frustration). Are you implying that anyone with a greater-than-30-inch waist is not "healthy"?

Re: Ridiculous post

Hardly. All I'm saying is that people with 30 inch waists are perfectly healthy, as opposed to anorexic, and shouldn't have to wear baggy pants for no fault of theirs. See, I couldn't care less what size your waist is as long as I can find pants my size. I don't think I could have been more clear about that.

Obesity sucks

I saw a message on this web site saying that since there are so many fat people, it's harder for healthier people to find clothes that sit. Speaking as a somewhat overweight person I just have to say this: it's no walk in the park trying to find clothes for me either.

Re: Obesity sucks

Well, I hope that will motivate you to do something about it.

I speak as a formerly obese person.
