What's new [Mar. 5th, 2006|09:57 pm]

[Current Mood |upbeat]

I haven't updated in a while. If you know me IRL you might know I've been going through some depression for the last month, month-and-a-half. Basically letting work affect my life too much. The whole of the last week my appetite vanished and I had trouble eating anything at all. Although the doctor couldn't make a diagnosis I suspect it was brought on by the depression.

Luckily I've recovered now. Work is looking up a bit (the crypto submission fell through but we'll be putting something up on eprint and hopefully a conference submission in the next couple of months or so.) My depression is gone and my monstrous appetite is back to normal :) Also, my once nearly-crippling lower back pain is now much better. The back brace I bought last month was the best 20 bucks I ever spent. I have an insane amount of work to get done this week but on the other hand I'm looking forward to spring break. I've started taking an interest in basketball and I'm going to a Spurs game in San Antonio next weekend and after that probably go camping or something like that for a couple of days. I'm also planning to get my driver's license soon, and buy a car. Overall, an exciting month ahead.

Oh, and a few more things:
  • Gnome 2.14 looks delicious
  • I don't care if you call me cheap, but Bartles and Jaymes is the best beer. I love their coconut flavor in particular.
  • brokentooth's fascinating tale of someone being tailed by the feds in ... wait for it... Coimbatore! Sad, scary or funny? You decide.
  • Livejournal won't stop carping that my password doesn't have numbers or symbols or squirrel noises in it. That's pretty ironic considering that the last paper I co-authored was about how this is a useless thing to do.

nba

Is it your interest in playing basketball that you have started watching the game, or do you just like watching the game?

Just for the record, I am a Phoenix Suns fan!!! I guess you will be watching the Spurs-Suns game.

Re: nba

I'm not interested in playing, just watching. I'm not a fan of any particular team. I find that a little ... childish :)

Just had a look at this - rather interesting, and ironic, yes :)

Good to know you're doing better now. In all honestly, I went through something similar a while ago, but for me, work was what helped me through it. Finding that balance is tricky.

I too have had phases when work was the bright spot. In fact that's what happens most of the time. Which is probably why when work didn't go so well, I went down with it.

BTW, if I ever let my life be affected by classes, I'd probably kill myself :)
