Arithmetic, driving [Aug. 2nd, 2006|07:24 am]

My mental arithmetic has degraded by now to the point of utter uselessness. Fortunately, my day job requires no arithmetic whatsoever (and I think it is superfluous to point out the irony therein.) But my gym life does: I'm flummoxed trying to figure out how many plates to load on the leg press to make 640 pounds, or the percentage of protein by calories in some food or the other. I don't even try to calculate how many miles I can drive on a half tank of gas -- I simply refuel when it hits the quarter tank mark and save myself the trouble.

In other news, this Monday I got to work at 4:30 AM :) The highway is a little crowded at 7, which is when I usually come in, and it frustrates me that the carpool lane is empty, so I wanted to get up early enough that I could drive on it (carpool restriction starts at 5am). Anyway, even 7am is ridiculously early, cuz most people start arriving 10-ish, and some only show up in the afternoon. So I get three hours of undisturbed work done, and life is good.

good stuff. even i'm all for starting work early to beat the traffic and noise at office - though 4:30 seems way too early!!

two questions here

1. is this sustainable?
2. could you get off work earlier than usual?

The last couple of months I was at Austin I was getting up at 5:30 mostly. So yeah, I'd say it's sustainable. As for getting off, I don't think my boss would care as long as I get work done and meet with him at least once a day. I'm putting in extra hours these days though because I'm a little driven...

As I've always said - Early to bed and early to rise really does make a man healthy, wealthy and wise...;P
I usually try waking up by 5.00 am even if I sleep late, but lately I really seem to be doing the exact opposite - and I've been trying to have atleast one game of tennis early every morn since this semester started, in vain :(

640 lbs

My machine weighs 110 lbs empty, as do many I suppose. You would have to load 12 45's to come out at 650 lbs.(45x12=540lbs+110lbs[machine]=650lbs).
As far as 640 goes, load 5 45's on each side(now you're at 560 with the machine)then put a 35 lbs plate and a 5 lbs plate on each side and there you are. Hope this helps =)
