Delhi, NY - population 2,583.

Delhi, India - population 21 million.

Guess which one is the first google hit?

That's right people. Duty calls. We need to googlebomb the Delhi article on Wikipedia!

While I think the situation is amusing, my call is serious. I've never started or participated in a googlebomb before, but I think this one's important.

Note about googlebombing: google recently changed their algorithm so make googlebombs less effective. But this only affects bombs where the target has nothing to do with the search term, such as Bush and "miserable failure" (at least lexically :-) Clearly, the target here is relevant, and according to google's official announcement, "this new algorithm is very limited in scope and impact."

So join me in helping Delhi take back her rightful place :-)

Edit: apparently the order is reversed for some people, so here's what it looks like for me:

No worries.

A googlebomb influences the ranking of a page by linking to it with a specific term. Most famously, people made "miserable failure" turn up Bush's page as the first search result.

To contribute to the googlebomb, all you have to do is make a blog post linking to the wikipedia page on Delhi and either link to this post so that people will now why we're doing it or explain it yourself.

Am I missing something?

I did a google search for delhi and the other Delhi did not feature in the first anywhere in the first 50 results (I stopped after 50).

The only other delhi that appearee was SUNY Delhi (www.delhi.edu) -- result no 2. I am googling from Hyd though.

Re: Am I missing something?

Suny delhi was the one i was referring to. Univ in a small town, pop of a few thousand.

It's result #1 for me. I guess the results fluctuate a little bit.

Re: Am I missing something?

That's a totally different issue. Good ol' PRC censorship.

But in fact results for all terms fluctuate a little bit, because google has a gazillion servers all over the globe and they randomly redirect you to one of them and it's not possible to keep them all in sync all the time.

Plus they sometimes deploy an update to the algorithms on some servers to test them before a full rollout.

It's #1 for me to, regardless as to whether I'm logged in.

as for the music - no, i always have my music player looping randomly over my entire collection. when you have ~10k tracks, it's the only way :)

My Googling for Delhi found Sunny Delhi at fourth position with Wiki on Delhi at first. Googlebombing started? :)

Delhi and Vaishnavo Janatho....what a combo! :)
